Thank you citizens of Chapleau!
Thank you for choosing reason and good sense.
Thank you for thinking of your community.
And most of all, thank you for voting in such great numbers.
I am so proud to be a member of this community.
Now, let's see what we can build together!
Good night to all!
Na na...nanana..na na.. na na na na
ReplyDeleteActually only 60-odd percent voted: good but not spectacular.
ReplyDeleteIt's better than the usual turnout, but still much less than I expected. I was hoping for 70 - 80%. I simply can't comprehend why some people just don't vote. The prospect of having Pellow for mayor wasn't scary enough? It would have been a scary Hallowe'en.
ReplyDeleteLike you said Mr. X, there are a large number of people who would have loved to vote, but because they do no reside within the municipality, they were not able to do so.
ReplyDeleteActually, our voter turnout is pretty spectacular, even at 60 odd percent. The only other city of interest with a 53.2 % turnout is Toronto. They also had an interesting run for the mayor's job. Other cities such as Barrie had a 32% turnout (and they are proud that they "crested" 30% !), 30.6% for St. Chatharines, Niagra-on-the-Lake at 48,6%, 38,5% for Thorold, Welland 41,1%, Grimsby 36,6% and so on. Apparently, voter turnouts of 25-30% tend to be the norm, unless there are some "interesting" candidates. Sorry, I was unable to find stats for Sudbury, Timmins and other towns closer to home.
ReplyDeleteGood job people!
Results for Wawa, 61,26% of residents voted. Results for Chapleau, 62,7%. I'm sure the rest will appear over the next few days.
