Timing is everything
To my relief, and that of many fellow residents and taxpayers, our Mayor, André Byham, has finally spoken out about the recent scandal. Much of the text is familiar to us. We have learned, through consultation of the appropriate legislation, that other councillors, and even the Mayor, are not obligated to intervene when a fellow council member is in conflict of interest. What's even worse is that the Mayor and council can do nothing in terms of discipline for any infractions. While I would have liked a statement a little earlier, when this whole story was a little more fresh, I am pleased that our Mayor has spoken up. I was not expecting any loud booming pronouncements, I just wanted to hear something. Which brings me to my point. While it's great that the Mayor has spoken and is aware of the ongoing situation, there is still one person I want to hear from: Rose Bertrand herself. I know she's probably getting nice and toasty in Florida and she probably hoped that this whole thing will blow over by the time she gets back. That is not enough. We deserve better. Are we missing some key piece of information? Is there a part of the municipal act we don't understand? Is there something else we got wrong? Set us straight, Rose. Either explain yourself, or tell us where we've got it wrong. We are still waiting patiently for answers. Hopefully, you can some in person, before too much time has passed.

A person with pride would have resigned within days of being exposed! Her lack of concern is an insult to Chapleau taxpayers. Are Chapleau taxpayers willing to be taken for dummies? You did wrong Councillor Bertrand and you need to resign! Your love for Chapleau is evident. Organizing your own Fish Derbies in conjunction with the Northern Pike Chapleau Derbies over the years and this year you organized your own fish derby during Carnival. And you sat on the recreation committee. Shame on you! It’s obvious that you are trying to milk the taxpayers with everything you can and hurt Chapleau in the meantime. You do not represent the local population and you do not belong on Council. You have let your electors down, and you know it. You are not an ambassador for Chapleau and you must resign.

ReplyDeleteIs it not this upcoming Monday evening that a representative from the Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs will be at the Council meeting to explain to the public and to Municipal Council about a Code of Conduct? Let's check our agenda's and make sure that we are there in attendence. And let's see if Municipal Council will vote that evening to work on establishing a Code of Conduct or if they will sweep the entire Disclosure of Interest SCANDAL underneath a rug.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the agenda!
ReplyDeleteHow do you get an Agenda of Council Meetings, before the meeting? Is there inside information being shared? How do I get on this shared list?
ReplyDeleteAlso, like anyone else, Mrs. Bertrand is entitled to go on vacation whenever and whereever she wants.
and anyone who hasn't been living under a rock, knows that there is much more to this story.
Believe what you hear and read in the paper, and you will be no further ahead tomorrow as you are today.
Taxpayers see what the Agenda is here and as the saying goes "you should have clean hands before you point the finger"
ReplyDelete????? on above two posts!
ReplyDeleteGo on the Township Portal. The Agenda is available, I believe on Fridays prior to the Council meeting. Wash you hands and go on the Portal. NO finger pointing.
